Dear Mayor Hogan and Members of City Council:
It is our pleasure to present for your review, the Housing Authority of the City of Aurora's 2015 Annual Report. The past year saw the Grand Opening of Village at Westerly Creek, Phase II which was awarded Housing Colorado’s People’s Choice Award. The second phase consists of 65, energy efficient units and roof top photo voltaic panels that provide energy to the common areas. The remaining Buckingham Gardens site was demolished to make way for the third and last development that will consist of 50, two to four bedroom, townhome style units for working families as well as 24 one bedroom homes for seniors.
The Authority strives for excellence in operations and for the tenth year in a row, our Section Eight Management Assessment Program score for the Housing Choice Voucher Program was certified at 100%. This score continues the Authority's distinction of being awarded "High Performer" status by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Aurora@Home, the collaborative plan to provide wrap around services and rental assistance to homeless families in the City served 24 families in 2015. A landlord recruitment specialist was hired to work directly with landlords to better serve the families in this challenging rental market and the results have been positive. AHA is honored to staff and serve as fiscal agent for this innovative program to help our most needy residents.
We look forward to the ongoing partnership we have with the City of Aurora to deal with the affordable housing challenges we face. On behalf of the Board of Commissioners, the staff, and all of the Authority's residents and clients, we thank you for your continued support.
